Alpacas are gentle

tn_314Welcome to the wonderful world of alpaca! The number of alpaca enthusiasts in New Zealand is rapidly growing. These delightful animals have some special attributes, although they share a number of characteristics.

Alpacas belong to the camel lid family. They were treasured by the ancient Incas in South America for their fine fleece. Alpacas provided the Incas with clothing, food, and companionship.

Large numbers of alpacas still exist in South America, despite a decline after the conquest of the Incas. Their survival is due in part to their ability to tolerate harsh conditions. The alpaca industry in South America is static due to over-grazing, and lack of commitment to selective breeding. The alpaca industry in New Zealand is vibrant and growing, we have ideal conditions throughout the country to nurture these wonderful animals.
